Our History:

In the beginning...

At the close of World War II, Robert Bowman, Bill Roberts and John Broger felt the burden to communicate God’s love for humanity at the ends of the earth. They prayed and sought the direction from the Lord, for to reach millions of people most effectively, they needed guidance on how to do this most cost effectively. It is not surprising that they turned to radio as a reliable platform to communicate the Gospel to the least reached, and closed communities of the world. With very little resources in hand, they established a non-profit and non-commercial organization, the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) on 20 December 1945. The first broadcasts were designated ‘KZAS’ and later ‘DZAS’ with the first official broadcasts reaching China, in June 1948.

One of FEBC’s primary focal points was India. The work originated in the 1950’s in collaboration with the Evangelical Radio Fellowship of India [ERFI] and the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) Manila. In 1956, the first broadcast in two languages were beamed to India from FEBC Manila.

In October 1964, a prayer fellowship was launched called FEBCOM fellowship which later became Far East Broadcasting Association (F.E.B.A.) fellowship, since it was felt necessary to mobilize prayer support for the ministry. The first 100, members enrolled included the staff members and others closely associated with the ministry.

Pioneers Russell & Gill Ashley-Smith were responsible for the establishment of F.E.B.A Radio South Africa

In order to have clear signals, F.E.B.A. established a new transmitting station on coral reefs in the Seychelles in 1970, an island on the east coast of Africa. Due to land reclamation by the government, F.E.B.A. Radio was asked to vacate the transmitting station to a different location. The F.E.B.A. Task Group in the U.K. worked hard to find suitable locations from which to broadcast our programmes through high power transmitters. This dream was realized when on 30th March 2003 F.E.B.A. moved from the shortwave transmission site in the, Seychelles to the various agencies taking F.E.B.A.’s broadcasts in 60 langauges (in addition to those already broadcast by FEBC) to listeners in the Far East, Asia, Middle East and Africa.

F.E.B.A Radio South Africa, the youngest of the F.E.B.A. family, started in 1996 as support raising office for the international ministry of F.E.B.A. Now, 11 years later, the office that started with a missionary couple, has grown into a strong team, not only raising support for F.E.B.A’s international radio ministry, but also for that of FEBC. We are based in our own office facility with an excellent studio.
